If you have a 128x128 plain color spray you might get a lot of frame sout of it and stay below 512kb. I have a 256x256 spray and 3 is the max. As I said, file size is the only limit afaik. If you wanna use 256x256 you will most likely never be able to use more than 3 frames since you'll hit the file size limit. #3.
